“We expect that the new IT system will increase the NBM’s capabilities to effectively prevent the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing. At the same time, we are confident that this will become an example of best practice in the fight against financial crimes,”
said the United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova, Kent Doyle Logsdon. 1
So the goal was ambitious: to create a world-class AML framework that not only meets the highest international standards but also strengthens Moldova’s financial system and boosts its credibility on the global stage. Delivered by Consortix, the SAS AML platform was built exactly for that purpose — powered by advanced risk analysis, pre-defined scenarios, and artificial intelligence to detect and act on suspicious activities faster and more accurately than ever.
What truly sets this project apart is its scale and complexity. The new system seamlessly connects with 37 databases and integrates both national and international sanctions lists. More than 100 monitoring scenarios were designed and deployed. With this success, Consortix reinforced its position among the select consultancies with proven expertise in delivering national-level AML solutions for central banks.
“The implementation of this innovative solution was a real challenge, considering the enormous volume of operations to be supervised and the complexity of the features that were and are yet to be developed,”
mentioned USAID FSTA Project Director, Matthew Macellaro. 2
Consortix also trained NBM’s specialists through a complex program, ensuring that the new system’s full potential is realized every day. Since go-live, NBM has been able to monitor the entire banking sector in real time, manage alerts instantly, and track stakeholder structure changes. All on a flexible platform ready to support additional sectors like insurance and microfinance.
“Considering the current trends of digitizing the supervisory functions of the financial system, at the international level, the National Bank of Moldova aims to strengthen its supervisory capacities by implementing and applying information technologies”,
said the Deputy Governor in charge of the field, Vladimir Munteanu. 3
Following the successful launch, Consortix was awarded the ongoing support and further development of the system, securing a long-term partnership with the National Bank of Moldova in strengthening financial crime prevention.
The NBM project showcases what is possible when cutting-edge technology, international collaboration, and deep consulting expertise come together. Consortix is proud to have contributed to shaping a more transparent, stable, and resilient financial future for Moldova.
